Duterte Insurance Group, a full-service insurance and financial planning provider serving the families and businesses of greater Laredo, TX, has announced the latest beneficiary of their thriving community involvement program. Joyce Herrera is a local mother of two who died on July 8, 2017, after a short but brave battle with cervical cancer and leptomeningeal carcinomatosis (LP). Donations to help her young family may now be made at https://www.gofundme.com/fighting-for-her-life-against-lp.
Joyce was battling cervical cancer when her oncologists discovered LP, a very rare complication of cancer in which the disease spreads to the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord. LP occurs in only 5% of people with cancer and is usually terminal within several weeks. Joyce was only 35 years old and left behind two beautiful children, ages 6 and 9. Although the swiftness of her death has left Joyce’s family in shock and grieving, they strongly urge women to keep up with their yearly Pap tests.
“We can’t imagine what her family must be going through,” said Keefe Duterte, owner of Duterte Insurance Group, “and her children are going to need to all the support they can get. One thing the community can assist with is Joyce’s medical bills – and raising funds to help her family get through this very difficult time.”
The agency is executing a dynamic social media and email outreach campaign to help spread the word throughout the community. They have also featured the cause for Joyce’s children in their monthly print and electronic magazine, Our Hometown. Helping customers and friends to ‘live well and thrive’, the publication is delivered to thousands of households in and around Laredo. As further evidence of their support, the Duterte team has made a promise to donate $10 to the family for each and every referral they receive for an insurance quote, with no purchase necessary. Those who would like to join forces with the agency to show support for Joyce Herrera’s children may…
