The release of Football Manager 2018 is here and that means it’s time to pick a club, sign some players, hone your tactics and start winning matches.

Unfortunately, with the majority of clubs having spent most of their summer budgets in real life, you could be left with quite a small amount of money to play with in your first window.

But fear not! We’ve scoured the latest edition of the game to find some bargain players (for all price ranges and clubs), and even unearthed a few useful free agents.

Okay, so £53m for Samuel Umtiti isn’t exactly cheap but we had to include him seeing as he is one of the best centre-backs in the game and won’t cost a whole lot more than Gylfi Sigurdsson did in real life (if you’ve got even more cash lying around, Antoine Griezmann has an £89m release clause). Dries Mertens, likewise, is an absolute steal – but persuading him to leave Napoli is rather difficult.
