‘Gotham’ S4 Trailer Reveals Bruce Donning A Mask And Armored Suit… Can A Cape Be Far Behind?

“There is a time for masks.  And there is a time for Bruce Wayne,” according to Alfred (Sean Pertwee) in the trailer for ‘Gotham’ Season Four.

But while the premise of this series was initially to follow the exploits of James Gordon’s (Ben McKenzie) ascent to Commissioner, as things progress– and the actors get older– David Mazouz’s Bruce Wayne is inching closer to adulthood and in Bruce’s case, that means one thing– Batman.

Though he isn’t yet sporting the pointy ears or bat silhouette logo, the Season Four trailer promises at least a mask and padded motorcycle jacket.  No cape, but a black trench coat is a step in that direction.  Could this indicate that, unlike ‘Smallville’, ‘Gotham’ will allow its youthful protagonist to eventually adopt his famous comic book identity?  That remains to be seen, but with these teases, where else is there to go?

Bruce isn’t the only one growing into his destiny.  The clip also shows Selina (Camren Bicondova) crawling her way to full blown Catwoman-dom and she takes down some thugs in a back alley.

While Catwoman is typically depicted as an anti-hero, there won’t be any shortage of full-blown villains, as Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor), Scarecrow (Charlie Tahan), Riddler (Cory Michael Smith), Victor Zsasz (Anthony Carrigan) and Poison Ivy (Maggie Geha) all pop up.

‘Gotham’ is switching to Thursday nights this season.  The S4 premier debuts on September 21 at 9pm EST (opposite The CW’s ‘Arrow’ also in a new time slot) with the episode ‘Pax Penguina’.

Gordon fears Jonathan Crane (guest star Charlie Tahan, Wayward Pines) is still alive and back in Gotham, when The Scarecrow’s signature MO is used in a series of robberies. Meanwhile, Penguin’s “licensing” of crime in the city backfires during the grand opening of his Iceberg Lounge.

Are you excited to see Bruce embracing his Bat Destiny?  Or do you think the show is moving to quickly in that direction?  More importantly, now that the Bat and the Arrow are facing off head-to-head, which DC hero do you think will come out on top?
