Man and his dog killed by train in Murray Hill

Jacksonville, Fla. – A man and his dog died Sunday evening after a train struck them in Murray Hill, Jacksonville.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the accident happened near the Roosevelt Boulevard and Edgewood Avenue intersection.

Police said the man was walking his dog along Edgewood Avenue at about 6 p.m.

The dog got spooked by an oncoming Amtrak train and ran on the tracks toward it. The man tried to chase after the dog but both were struck and killed by the moving train.

According to the Amtrak, 281 passengers were aboard the train and there are no reported injuries. The train was traveling from Sanford to Lorton, Virginia.
