Elkhart gets new city controller
Elkhart Mayor Tim Neese announced Tuesday that Rita Huffman has joined his administration as the new city controller. As controller, Huffman will serve as the city’s chief financial officer, overseeing the city’s annual budget.
Huffman has served as the first deputy clerk-treasurer in Goshen since 2005. Prior to her years in municipal finance, she also served as a controller in the private sector.
“Rita’s public management skills and background in both public and private finance made her the ideal candidate for this position,” Neese said. “In addition to immediately beginning preparations on the 2018 budget, I have also tasked Rita with building a rapport with the local business and philanthropic community. I am confident she is up to the task and believe she will be a great asset to the city.”
Huffman’s first day with Elkhart was Monday. Jamie Arce, who previously served as interim controller, will continue as deputy controller.
