Tacoma (AAA) 6, Reno 2
TACOMA, Wash. – Nathan Bannister pitched seven scoreless innings, leading the Tacoma Rainiers (59-60) over the Reno Aces (68-51) in a 6-2 win on Friday.
Bannister (1-0) picked up the win after he struck out two while allowing five hits.
Tacoma went up 4-0 in the third after Daniel Vogelbach hit an RBI double and then scored on a two-run home run by Gordon Beckham.
The Rainiers added to their lead in the eighth when Danny Muno hit a two-run home run.
Eric Jokisch (7-6) went six innings, allowing four runs and six hits in the Pacific Coast League game. He also struck out seven and walked three. Dan Altavilla recorded his fifth save of the season.
Despite the loss, Reno is 8-4 against Tacoma this season.
Midland 4, Arkansas (AA) 3
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – B.J. Boyd homered and had two hits as the Midland RockHounds (57-61) topped the Arkansas Travelers (52-66) 4-3 on Friday.
Carlos Navas struck Ryan Casteel out with a runner on first to end the game for his fourth save of the season.
Midland started the scoring in the first inning when Boyd hit a solo home run.
Trailing 4-1, the Travelers cut into the deficit in the eighth inning when Tyler Marlette hit a two-run single.
Midland right-hander Heath Fillmyer (8-4) picked up a quality start and the win after allowing one run on eight hits over six innings. Opposing starter Justin DeFratus (5-7) took the loss in the Texas League game after allowing four runs and five hits over six innings.
San Jose 6, Modesto (High-A) 2
MODESTO, Calif. – Matt Winn doubled twice and singled, and Shaun Anderson allowed just two hits over 5 2/3 innings as the San Jose Giants (54-64) topped the Modesto Nuts (62-56) 6-2 on Friday.
Anderson (2-1) picked up the win after he struck out four while allowing one run.
San Jose got on the board first with a run in the third inning. After leading off the inning with a single, John Polonius advanced to second on a wild pitch, went to third on an error, and then scored on a single by Bryan Reynolds.
After San Jose added two runs, the Nuts cut into the deficit in the fifth inning when Logan Taylor scored on an error.
The Giants later added a run in the sixth and two in the ninth. In the sixth, Steven Duggar hit an RBI single, while Heath Quinn hit a two-run single in the ninth.
