On the Farm: Mariners minor league affiliate report for July 14

Fresno 4, Tacoma (AAA) 0

TACOMA, Wash. – Kevin Comer and three other pitchers combined for a shutout as the Fresno Grizzlies (51-41) beat the Tacoma Rainiers (46-45) 4-0 on Friday.

Comer (4-3) picked up the win after he struck out three over one scoreless inning. Casey Lawrence (2-2) went 7 1/3 innings, allowing one run and four hits to take the hard-luck loss in the Pacific Coast League game. He also struck out three and walked two.

All four runs came in the eighth inning. Fresno got on the board first when Reid Brignac scored on a single by Preston Tucker. The Grizzlies added to their lead when Colin Moran drew a bases-loaded walk and A.J. Reed hit a two-run double.

Tony Kemp singled three times, also stealing a base in the win.

For the Rainiers, D.J. Peterson doubled and singled. Tacoma was held scoreless for the seventh time this season, while the Fresno staff recorded its fourth shutout of the year.

Fresno improved to 7-3 against Tacoma this season.

Springfield 4, Arkansas (AA) 1

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Darren Seferina homered and singled as the Springfield Cardinals (47-44) topped the Arkansas Travelers (41-50) 4-1 on Friday.

Randy Arozarena doubled and singled, also stealing a base for Springfield.

Springfield went up 2-0 in the fourth after Tommy Edman hit an RBI single, bringing home Andrew Knizner.

After Springfield added two runs in the eighth, the Travelers cut into the deficit in the ninth inning when Ian Miller hit an RBI double, driving in Adam Law.

Springfield starter Chris Ellis (2-4) picked up the win after allowing five hits over six scoreless innings. Opposing starter Lindsey Caughel (6-8) took the tough loss in the Texas League game after allowing two runs and four hits over five innings.

Law doubled twice and singled for the Travelers.

Visalia 5, Modesto (High-A) 1

MODESTO, Calif. – Sergio Alcantara had three hits and scored two runs, and Jon Duplantier allowed just three hits over seven innings as the Visalia Rawhide (45-47) beat the Modesto Nuts (53-39) 5-1 on Friday.

Duplantier (2-0) allowed one run while striking out seven to pick up the win.

Visalia started the scoring in the first inning when Matt Jones hit a two-run single.
