At one time or another, we’ve all enjoyed a bit of raw cookie dough. As adults, we know some ingredients shouldn’t be consumed until baked.

Leslie Cruz solves that salmonella threat by creating and offering safe-to-eat raw cookie dough through her newly opened no-bake sweet shop, DoughLish.

“There’s nothing else around here besides ice cream for a dessert shop,” Cruz said.

Preparing the dough herself, Cruz creates a variety that includes classics such as chocolate chip and sugar cookie. She also went creative with a Butterfingers dough and even s’mores-inspired dough.

“Snickerdoodle is my personal favorite,” she said. “I’ve made a lemon sugar cookie. It’s really good if you like lemon.”

Cruz and her husband, like so many people in the area, decided to move to Fort Walton Beach after having vacationed in the area. Opening DoughLish, she said, also means more than offering treats to people seeking an unusual dessert.

“I prefer to go to locally-owned places,” she said. “I don’t eat at the chains.”

After graduating from Choctawhatchee High School and earning both her bachelor’s and her master’s degrees from Florida State University, Jennica Blair headed to New York.
