Tarell Brown’s 10th Annual Free Football and Cheerleading Skills Camp is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at E.H. Hanby Stadium.
The North Mesquite graduate and current free agent corner back returns to his home town for the free event, which is open to kids in grades 2-12.
In addition to Brown, he is expected to be joined by other current and former college and NFL players, as well as high school cheer coaches.
The football camp will feature position-specific drills, special teams participation, competitive 1-on-1 drills and team offense and defense scrimmages. There will also be instruction on proper warm-up and stretching technique, conditioning and sports nutrition.
The cheerleader participants will be instructed by current North Mesquite coaches and cheerleaders and they will have a demonstration in front of the crowd at the end of the event.
Early registration is currently going on through June 5. Campers may also register on the day of the camp, but only the first 400 registered are guaranteed a spot.
Each camper will receive a free camp T-shirt, lunch, camp souvenir and autographed souvenir. Donations are also being accepted for Tarell Brown’s Brown’s Kids Foundation, Inc., which was founded in 2012 with the mission of being a catalyst for change that will empower youth to succeed in areas of education, self growth and will break the cycle of poverty. The foundation aims to give back to the community and to showcase the positive reinforcement that athletics and mentoring can give.
Brown, who was part of the 2005 national championship team at Texas, spent his first seven seasons in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers before one-year stints with both the Oakland Raiders and New England Patriots.
