A couple things …
— The ESPN College Football Playoff selection show was packed with what I most dislike about cable news/sports, talking heads pontificating ad nauseam.
I don’t know about you, but I would rather watch a game.
Instead of arguing over Ohio State or Alabama, why not both? Why not Central Florida, which after all, was unbeaten? Why not USC, which played a tougher schedule than either Ohio State or Alabama?
Why not an inclusive playoff, where we can do away with all the blather and settle this thing on the field?
As it is, we have a four-team playoff — Clemson vs. Alabama and Oklahoma vs. Georgia — with two teams from the SEC and all four from south of the Mason-Dixon Line.
It’s what the committee gave us, and you know what happened when a committee set out to design a horse.
Did the committee get the Final Four right? Who knows? The only fair way to determine that would be to have a larger playoff field.
— We could know as early as today whether Willie Taggart will remain coach of the Oregon Ducks or make the leap to Florida State.
Scott Roussel of FootballScoop.com has picked through the tea leaves and believes Taggart has to stay at Oregon.
The O’s John Canzano reports the UO braintrust is neck deep in contingency plans, and wonders If Taggart bails whether the Ducks will keep the staff.
More from Canzano: Taggart is being open and honest with UO officials.
It seems the decision-makers at Oregon…
