When is the AP Top 25 poll released?

The preseason AP Top 25 college football rankings will be revealed on Monday, Aug. 21, according to Associated Press reporter Ralph D. Russo.

Clemson is the defending national champion after beating Alabama in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game, 35-31. But Alabama was No. 1 in the preseason USA Today/Amway Coaches Poll that was released Thursday, Aug. 3.

The 2017 college football season starts Saturday, August 26, so the preseason AP Poll will be out less than a week before the first games.

Clemson picked up all 60 No. 1 votes in the last rankings for the 2016 season. The Tigers beat Ohio State, 31-0, in the semifinals and then Alabama, 35-31, to win the national title in a rematch. Clemson scored the winning touchdown with 1 second remaining as Deshaun Watson threw a 2-yard pass to Hunter Renfrow.

Here’s how the coaches voted in the USA Today/Amway Coaches Poll, which was revealed on Thursday, August 3. Alabama got the No. 1 ranking by picking up 49 first-place votes. Defending champion Clemson got seven No. 1 votes but is only No. 5.
